5. Shading

Now for shading... Here's a quick step-by-step method I used to shade an area:

1. Here I just put in a soft shadow the same hue as the right side of the post. 2. I added a soft yellow highlight.
3. Darkening shadows on the left side. 4. Now I'm zooming in a little more to add details like wood grain and reflections of the sky.

5. More details and contrast for shadows and highlights.
 

Here's the pic with the shading finished. The lines don't look natural, so it's time to blend them in with the rest of the picture.

I went back to the 'background inking' layer, and set this to 'lock opacity' (if you don't know what I'm talking about, go through the Lineart Editing Tutorial). From there I just selected colours closer to the surrounding colours of the lines and brushed them over with that colour.

And here's the picture with the lines blended in. I smoothed out the sky a little too.

Now we're almost done; just the clouds and a few more effects to go...
